Our Centre Philosophy
At Kids Corner, we place enormous value on the bicultural nature of Aotearoa, ensuring learning, acknowledgement and maintenance of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori within daily practice and interactions.
We follow a child-led curriculum based on Te Whāriki, with play at the centre of our daily routines, while ensuring our environment is displayed and provided with care and love for the benefit of our tamariki and their learning and development.
We are a mixed age setting with our youngest and oldest tamariki spending time together throughout the day, learning alongside each other and with our kaiako supporting the continuity of care relationships that arise from this.
Our kaupapa principles are:
Ako – where our tamariki, whānau and kaiako all learn, teach and play alongside each other in a collaborative way.
Kaitiakitanga – we promote guardianship of our environment and Papatuanuku, and care for people, places and things.
Kotahitanga – we work as a cohesive team and network to ensure the best outcomes for all of our tamariki.
Manaakitanga – we have a culture of kindness and care, and we ensure the best care possible for our tamariki and whānau
Whanaungatanga – we develop family-like kinship and relationships with our entire centre community, and we strive to create a ‘village’ to raise children within so they and their whānau are supported holistically.
